In order to promote the develoment of a safe childhood without violence and in harmony with nature, the children organizations – ONNAS – from the San José, San Andrés, Nuevo Campeón and December 8th communities would participate in the fourth edition of the 2015 Water Festival. This amazing event would take place from the 26th to the 29th, supported by the Children and Adolescents Education Institute – INFANT and the Bernard van Leer Foundation.

This festival also intends to promote the touristic atractions of these communties. The 2015 Water Festival, features a Film Communtary Show under the direction of NÓMADAS Asociation, that will work with the children. This Film Festival would take place on May 28 and 29. During those days, the children would show the work they have done, such short films and video documentaries. This festival includes an open film workshop for all the children and adolescents.

During the 2015 Water Festival, all the people would participate in many different and colorful activities, amongst them a recycle fair, a fashion show with recycled materials, and an eco-touristic river tour. Other activities include, synchronized swimming, and other water sports in the Itaya River, and a water carnival and services and products fair.

Another interesting exhibition for this years’ festival isthe building of a “pedalero”, a water vehicle build with fridge parts and a bicycle; these vehicles have been made wiht lots of creativity.

Water is a vital element and the source of life, thus this festival recognizes the efforts made to protect this element from polution and helos us find allies to preserve our waters clean. It also honors the families who have lost their children in these waters: they are now the ‘guardians of the river’.

The festival serves as a space to show the cultural diversity of these communites, and also their wisdom and the sensibility with which they express their traditions, that same sensibility with on which we must built a new culture of childhood free of violence. The Water Festival promotes that children, together with INFANT, can recognize their agency and their contribution to a sustainable development of their communities, and that the local and regional authorities can take into account their initiatives and can include them in the policy making process.
